Navigate the GovRAMP programme from first snapshot to Authorized

GovRAMP is a US nonprofit programme, formerly known as StateRAMP, that verifies the security of cloud products used by state, local, tribal and territorial governments and public education. It assesses providers against NIST SP 800-53 Rev.

    Who needs GovRAMP

Is GovRAMP right for your organisation?

5 controls and lists verified products on its Authorized Product List, so one assessment can be reused by many government buyers.

Cloud, SaaS, PaaS and IaaS providers need GovRAMP when a participating state, county, city or university requires it in procurement. Many providers start with Core or Ready to win early contracts, then move to Authorized at the impact level their government customers' data demands.

It is usually required by customers, partners or schemes rather than by law.

    How we help

    How OneClickComply helps with GovRAMP

OneClickComply supports GovRAMP today, so the controls and evidence you already hold for ISO 27001, SOC 2 or FedRAMP count towards your GovRAMP package. Automated evidence collection, continuous monitoring and AutoComplete policies help you prepare documentation and keep up with ongoing monitoring, with our audit team on hand for guidance.

    Requirements covered

A progressive programme built on NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5: Core covers 60 prioritised controls, Ready 80 controls, and Authorized 300+ controls set by Low, Moderate or High impact level.

    Why automate

    Manual GovRAMP compliance vs OneClickComply

    Doing it manually

    • Working out which pathway and impact level your government buyers expect
    • Writing a System Security Plan and policies for hundreds of NIST controls by hand
    • Chasing screenshots and exports from every system before a 3PAO assessment
    • Repeating evidence already gathered for FedRAMP, ISO 27001 or SOC 2
    • Keeping POA&Ms, scans and inventories current for ongoing monitoring

    With OneClickComply

    • Expert guidance from our audit team on the right GovRAMP pathway
    • Policies generated from your environment, ready to tailor for your package
    • Evidence collected automatically from connected tools and admin consoles
    • One control set mapped across frameworks, so evidence counts once
    • Continuous monitoring that flags control drift between reporting cycles
    Capabilities

    Everything you need for GovRAMP

    • GovRAMP controls mapped to NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 and your existing frameworks

    • Automated evidence collection across 13,000+ integrations for your security package

    • AutoComplete policies drafted from your real environment to support your SSP

    • Continuous monitoring with alerts to support monthly or quarterly ConMon reporting

    • Risk register and vendor risk management for interconnected services

    • Ask an Auditor guidance while you choose between Core, Ready and Authorized

    How it works

    Three steps to GovRAMP compliance

    1. Connect and scan

Connect your cloud, identity and SaaS tools. OneClickComply checks them against GovRAMP and shows which controls pass and which fail.

    2. Fix and generate

OneClickFix fixes supported misconfigurations automatically, and AutoComplete drafts GovRAMP policies from your real environment.

    3. Monitor and evidence

Continuous monitoring flags drift as it happens, and our in-house audit team is on hand when you need expert guidance.

    What is GovRAMP?

GovRAMP is a US nonprofit membership organisation, formerly called StateRAMP, that runs a standardised security verification programme for cloud products used by state, local, tribal and territorial governments and public education. Providers are assessed against controls from NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5, and verified products are listed on GovRAMP's Authorized Product List so government buyers can reuse one assessment instead of running their own.

Is GovRAMP the same as StateRAMP?

Yes. StateRAMP changed its name to GovRAMP in 2025 to reflect its wider role across all levels of government. It is the same programme and the same organisation, so older contracts, RFPs and procurement documents that still say StateRAMP generally refer to the same security requirements and verification statuses.

    Is GovRAMP mandatory?

GovRAMP is not a law, but it becomes a contractual requirement when a participating government or university writes it into procurement. Many states, counties, cities and education bodies now ask cloud providers to hold, or be progressing towards, a GovRAMP verified status. Texas runs its own TX-RAMP programme, which recognises GovRAMP verified status through reciprocity.

What are the GovRAMP verification levels?

GovRAMP has three verified pathways. Core is a PMO-validated status covering 60 prioritised NIST controls with no 3PAO assessment. Ready is based on an independent 3PAO assessment of 80 controls. Authorized, or Provisionally Authorized, is based on a 3PAO assessment of 300+ controls and needs a government sponsor or the GovRAMP Approvals Committee. Authorized requirements are set by impact level: Low, Moderate or High.

How does GovRAMP compare with FedRAMP?

Both programmes are built on NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5, use independent 3PAO assessments and require continuous monitoring. FedRAMP is run by the US General Services Administration for federal agencies, while GovRAMP is an independent nonprofit serving state, local and education buyers. Providers with existing federal documentation can use GovRAMP Fast Track to have it reviewed rather than repeating a full assessment.

How does GovRAMP relate to ISO 27001 and SOC 2?

GovRAMP does not accept ISO 27001 or SOC 2 in place of its own assessment, but much of the underlying work overlaps: access control, logging, incident response, change management and risk assessment all appear in each. Organisations that already hold ISO 27001 or a SOC 2 report usually have policies and evidence they can reuse when preparing a GovRAMP security package.

What do I need to do to get GovRAMP verified?

Become a GovRAMP member, decide which pathway and impact level fit your government customers, then prepare a security package including a System Security Plan and supporting documentation. Ready and Authorized require an assessment by a GovRAMP approved 3PAO, and Authorized needs government sponsorship. After verification you must keep the status current through continuous monitoring and an annual review.

    Does OneClickComply support GovRAMP?

Yes. OneClickComply supports GovRAMP today. Controls you already run for frameworks such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2 are mapped to GovRAMP requirements, so the same evidence counts towards both. Automated evidence collection and continuous monitoring keep your package current, and our audit team can help you prepare. OneClickComply does not issue GovRAMP authorisations.
