Reach GovRAMP Core verification with evidence ready for PMO review

GovRAMP Core is a verified security status that confirms a cloud product has implemented 60 priority NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 controls, chosen using the MITRE ATT&CK framework and aligned to the GovRAMP Moderate baseline.

    Who needs GovRAMP Core

Is GovRAMP Core right for your organisation?

It is assessed directly by the GovRAMP Program Management Office (PMO) instead of a third-party assessment organisation (3PAO). GovRAMP launched Core in May 2025 as a bridge between the Progressing Security Snapshot and full Ready or Authorized verification.

GovRAMP Core suits cloud and SaaS providers selling to US state and local government bodies that accept Core, particularly for lower-risk or lower-value contracts where full authorisation would be too costly or slow. It is also used as a verified stepping stone towards GovRAMP Ready or Authorized status. Providers must be GovRAMP members and should check each solicitation for the status it requires.

It is usually required by customers, partners or schemes rather than by law.

    How we help

How OneClickComply helps with GovRAMP Core

GovRAMP Core is supported in OneClickComply today. OneClickComply maps the 60 Core controls to your existing controls, collects evidence automatically from your cloud, identity and device tools, and generates the policies and plans the PMO asks for. Continuous monitoring then helps you keep the 90 days of monitoring data and the quarterly continuous monitoring that Core requires in order.

    Requirements covered

60 NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 controls and enhancements across 11 control families, including access control, configuration management, contingency planning, incident response and system integrity.

    Why automate

Manual GovRAMP Core compliance vs OneClickComply

    Doing it manually

    • Writing a narrative and gathering artefacts for each of 60 controls by hand
    • Taking screenshots of MFA, account and configuration settings across many tools
    • Drafting the SSP, policies and plans from scratch
    • Assembling 90 days of monitoring data and a POA&M for the submission
    • Keeping evidence current for quarterly continuous monitoring after approval

    With OneClickComply

    • Controls mapped once, with evidence linked to each Core control
    • Configuration evidence collected automatically from connected tools
    • Policies and plans generated from your real environment
    • Monitoring history recorded continuously, ready to export
    • Drift alerts that help you stay ready for each quarterly review
    Capabilities

Everything you need for GovRAMP Core

    • The 60 GovRAMP Core controls mapped to your existing control set

    • Automated evidence collection for access, configuration and logging controls

    • AutoComplete policies, including configuration management, incident response and contingency plans

    • Continuous monitoring with alerts to support quarterly ConMon

    • OneClickFix for supported misconfigurations, logged as evidence

    • Ask an Auditor guidance on PMO submission and next steps to Ready

    How it works

Three steps to GovRAMP Core compliance

    1. Connect and scan

Connect your cloud, identity and SaaS tools. OneClickComply checks them against GovRAMP Core and shows which controls pass and which fail.

    2. Fix and generate

OneClickFix fixes supported misconfigurations automatically, and AutoComplete drafts GovRAMP Core policies from your real environment.

    3. Monitor and evidence

Continuous monitoring flags drift as it happens, and our in-house audit team is on hand when you need expert guidance.

    GovRAMP Core questions, answered

Can't find what you need? Our in-house auditors can talk you through GovRAMP Core on a 30-minute call.

    What is GovRAMP Core?

GovRAMP Core is a verified security status from GovRAMP, the non-profit formerly called StateRAMP. It confirms that a cloud product has implemented 60 priority NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 controls, selected using the MITRE ATT&CK framework and aligned to the Moderate baseline. The GovRAMP PMO assesses it directly, and approved products are listed on the Authorized Product List as Core-verified.

Does GovRAMP Core require a 3PAO audit?

No. GovRAMP Core does not require an assessment by a third-party assessment organisation (3PAO). The GovRAMP Program Management Office reviews your submitted evidence directly, including documentation analysis, validation of scan results and an evaluation of your overall security programme. Core is not a self-attestation, though: you must submit evidence for review.

What do I need to submit for GovRAMP Core?

You submit evidence for all 60 Core controls plus required documentation. GovRAMP lists a System Security Plan, system diagrams, policies and procedures, a user guide, rules of behaviour, a plans catalogue, applicable laws and regulations, and 90 days of continuous monitoring data with a plan of action and milestones (POA&M). You must be a GovRAMP member before submitting.

How is GovRAMP Core different from the Progressing Security Snapshot?

The Progressing Security Snapshot shows early progress and security maturity, while Core formally verifies that 60 foundational controls are implemented. Core results in a listing on the Authorized Product List and requires quarterly continuous monitoring. Many providers use the Snapshot first to build readiness, then apply for Core, although the Snapshot is optional.

How does GovRAMP Core relate to GovRAMP Ready and Authorized?

GovRAMP Core is a lower-cost, PMO-assessed status that can be a destination in its own right for lower-risk contracts, or a stepping stone towards GovRAMP Ready or Authorized. Ready and Authorized require a 3PAO assessment against a full impact level baseline and monthly continuous monitoring, whereas Core covers 60 controls with quarterly monitoring.

    Who needs GovRAMP Core?

Cloud and technology providers selling to US state and local governments that accept GovRAMP Core need it when a contract asks for it. GovRAMP has named states such as Arizona, Utah and Texas as showing interest. Requirements vary by buyer, so check each solicitation to see whether Core, Ready or Authorized status is required.

Is GovRAMP Core related to FedRAMP or ISO 27001?

Yes, partly. GovRAMP Core uses NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 controls, the same catalogue behind FedRAMP, so work done for FedRAMP or NIST-based programmes overlaps heavily. ISO 27001 is a separate standard, but many of its Annex A controls, such as access control, logging and backups, cover similar ground and can share evidence.

    Does OneClickComply support GovRAMP Core?

Yes. GovRAMP Core is supported in OneClickComply today. OneClickComply maps the 60 Core controls to your existing controls, collects evidence automatically and generates the policies the PMO expects. OneClickComply does not issue GovRAMP verification: the GovRAMP PMO reviews your submission and decides on Core status.
